Lagunitas CitruSinensis

Lagunitas CitruSinensis is a 7.9 ABV 45 IBU APA.  The appearance is light orange and the nose bright citrus.  The flavor follows, sweet malt and juicy orange citrus hop.  Overall mouthfeel, texture and carbonation are moderate and well drinkable.  That blood orange citrus presence really enhances the hop and CitrusSinensis comes off bright, refreshing and fresh.  Easily recommendable, Lagunitas continues to be among my top breweries and I hope for nothing but good things with their new Heineken corporate overlords.

Dogfish Head 90 Minute

Dogfish Head 90 is a 9 ABV 90 IBU ADIIPA.  The appearance is orange and the nose sweet boozy malt and hop.  The malts have a sweet caramel biscuity quality, turning pine hop bitter, notes of warming alcohol are present throughout.  Mouthfeel is creamy and well rounded.  Dogfish 90 sits nicely between the almost sessionable 60 and barleywine like 90.  Dog 90 is a well known and seemingly widely available IPA and one that every beer geek should know.

Lagunitas The Waldos’ Special Ale

Lagunitas The Waldos’ Special (ADIIP) Ale is 11.5 ABV and 100 IBU.  The appearance is orange and the nose sweet boozy malt and pine hop.  The flavor has good balance but that strong boozy malt comes out on top.  The resiny pine hop is of course a big presence in the finish.  Mouthfeel is creamy and has a softly carbonated full body texture.  At 11.5 % it almost has a barleywine feel but it stays remarkably restrained.  It’s big but doesn’t get out of hand.  Not one for pounding but easily top notch and recommendable.

Sixpoint Resin

Sixpoint Resin is a 9.1 ABV 103 IBU ADIIPA.  The appearance is orange amber and the nose malty and resinous hop.  The flavor is well balanced sweet malt and resiny pine hop.  Mouthfeel is creamy and nicely drinkable given the fairly amped up IBU and ABV and the carbonation soft.  Resin is aptly named as that hop flavor is just super resiny goodness.  I’ve had this before and I’m fairly surprised it took me this long to officially review.  A must have for any enthusiast.

Buxton Brewery Rain Shadow

Buxton Brewery (England) Rain Shadow is an 11.8 ABV Russian Imperial Stout.  The appearance is rich black and the nose roasted malts and licorice.  The flavor follows, very sweet boozy malts, licorice, tobacco, with some roasted coffee / chocolate notes finishing resiny.  Mouthfeel is creamy and a bit viscous and wonderfully smooth.  I was so glad to have found Rain Shadow at a local World of Beer restaurant.  Fantastic and easily recommended if you can find it.

Rogue Cold Brew IPA

Rogue Cold Brew (A)IPA is 7.5 ABV, 74 IBU and is brewed with Stumptown cold brew coffee.  The appearance is orange amber and the nose fresh hop and notes of bitter coffee.  The flavor is well balanced sweet malt and fresh hop with that bitter coffee throughout.  Mouthfeel is smooth and fairly creamy with lower carbonation.  This is pretty wonderful, that bitter coffee bean is delicious so well used by Rogue.  I wanted to savor this but there is just no hope of that.  Will be trying to find more, easily recommended.
