Against the Grain Citra Ass Down!

Against the Grain Citra Ass Down!  is an 8.2 ABV 68 IBU ADIIPA.  Hops include Citra, Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, U.S. Tettnanger, East Kent Golding, Bavarian, Brewers Gold, “and other unknown hops.”  Overall it’s good, with a complex, resiny, citrus hop character and sweet malt.  Mouthfeel is moderate with a nice creaminess.  It’s fine and worth trying but Against the Grain can get a bit expensive.

Sierra Nevada Beer For Drinking (BFD)

Sierra Nevada Beer For Drinking (BFD) is a 4.8 ABV American Blonde Ale with a light orange pour.  The nose and palate are grainy, straw lager, with a citrus bite on the finish.  Mouthfeel is light and crisp.  It’s an unexciting style but elevated well by a consistently good brewer.  Maybe nothing to get too excited about but great for the style.  Like the 19.2 OZ can.

2017 Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout

2017 Goose Island Bourbon County Brand (ADI) Stout is 14.1 ABV and pours virtually black.  It’s very rich with all those cocoa, coffee, boozy, oaky, vanilla, and dark fruit notes that you’d expect.  Mouthfeel is big and chewy.  This is obviously a special beer and one to seek out and covet.  This always comes with a huge hype and fortunately manages to live up to it.  Can’t recommend enough.  Get as many as you can, age some, enjoy them.

Stone Totalitarian

Stone Totalitarian is a 10.6 ABV RIS and pours virtually black.  The nose is bitter cocoa which leads into the taste, very bitter and toasty espresso with a light dark fruit sweetness.  Mouthfeel is a bit thick but not at all cloying, with a just lively enough carbonation and all but hidden alcohol.  Stone did a great job with this, will age half the 4 pack.   Easily recommended.
