The Bruery Mischief

The Bruery Mischief is an 8.5 ABV Belgian Strong Pale Ale.  Appearance is golden with a spicy, banana bread nose.  The flavor follows, banana, coriander, orchard fruits, and lemony citrus with a strong yeast presence.  Mouthfeel is crisp.  There’s a lot going on here, very interesting take on a Belgian style from a CA brewery and quite worth trying.

Founders Solid Gold

Founders Solid Gold is a 4.6 ABV 20 IBU Adjunct Lager.  Appearance is orange with a frothy head and the nose sweet cereal malt.  The palate is definitely that of a basic adjunct lager with cereal malts and a light hop, but a very good one.  This is as good and bad as a drinkable, cheap, accessible, American lager type should be.  For the right occasion this is a great beer.

New Holland Dragon’s Milk

New Holland (MI) Dragon’s Milk is an 11 ABV ADIS and pours black with a large dark head.  The nose is coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla oak, which leads into the palate, roasty, boozy, and very influenced by the barrel aging.  The mouthfeel is a bit viscous with slightly lower carbonation but drinkable.  I don’t think it’s elite level but it’s up there, very delicious, aging a couple.

Heavy Seas Peg Leg Stout

Heavy Seas Peg Leg (Russian Imperial) Stout is 8 ABV and pours just shy of black.  The nose is all sweet boozy malt leading into the palate, roasty malt, boozy rum raisin and orchard fruit.  Mouthfeel, carbonation and texture are all pretty moderate and the abv is low for the style.  Nothing here to strongly recommend but it’s just fine.  Maybe cellar one for awhile.

Maker’s 46

Maker’s 46 (94 proof) is Maker’s Mark finished in French stave barrels, the 46 refers to something about it being the 46th wood recipe.  The nose is oaky vanilla with some spice, leading into the palate, plenty of oak, leather and spice, namely clove and cinnamon.  Overall it’s quite mellow and works nice with a large, slower melting piece of ice.  Well worth it at a price point of around 40 bucks.

Stone W00t Stout 2017

Stone W00t Stout 2017 is a 13 ABV 65 IBU ADIS and pours virtually black.  The nose is boozy vanilla, leading into the flavor, malt heavy with oaky vanilla notes from the barrel aging.  The pecans lend a nice sweetness and the overall mouthfeel is a bit syrupy with lower carbonation.  W00t stout is never disappointing but gets a bit sweet for me.  Bottled 6/17 and enjoyed 3/18.

Founders DKML

Founders DKML is a 14.2 ABV Malt Liquor and pours orange amber.  The nose is all malt leading into the palate, a big boozy malt bomb with notes of vanilla and oak from the barrel aging.  Mouthfeel is moderate and pretty drinkable for the ABV which is very present but not at all in a raw unpleasing way.  It’s a novelty but Founders executed this as deftly as could be expected.  Definitely worth trying.
